Norway’s armed forces said they have donated 40 military trucks and 36 field vehicles to North Macedonia to help it establish an infantry battalion for NATO standing readiness.

The donation also seeks to assist North Macedonia in recovering certain military resources in recognition of the Balkan country’s support for Ukraine in the form of military equipment, the Norwegian armed forces said in a press release earlier this week.

In 2022, North Macedonia donated a convoy of third-generation T-72 tanks to Ukraine, Soviet-era armoured vehicles known for their durability. Additionally, in March of last year, North Macedonia announced its approval for the donation of a fleet of helicopters to Ukraine.

The vehicles donated by Norway to North Macedonia have been used very little and are in very good technical condition, Uyvind Heien, head of the Norwegian Armed Forces’ land systems department in defence equipment, was quoted as saying in the press release.

North Macedonia became a NATO member in 2020.
